Use ～てしまいました to report an unfortunate completed event. Use ～んですが to introduce a problem softly before making a request.

旅行者：すみません、かばんを電車に忘れてしまったんですが。
駅員：どんなかばんですか。
旅行者：黒くて、大きいかばんです。調べていただけますか。
駅員：はい、少々お待ちください。

Build it: verb て-form + しまいました; verb て-form + いただけますか

When to use it: ～んですが can introduce the problem softly before the request.
