Use あげる for giving outward, もらう for receiving, and くれる when someone gives to me or my group.

A：この漢字を教えてくれますか。
B：いいですよ。先生にも説明してもらいました。

Build: My friend helped me. Then adapt it with your own information and say it aloud.

Target sentence Show kana

ともだちがてつだってくれました。

Meaning: Describe helpful actions from a chosen viewpoint.

Build it: giver が + Vてくれる; receiver は + person に + Vてもらう

When to use it: くれる directs the favour toward the speaker's side.

友だちが手伝ってくれました。
